Greg Johnston
Greg is the Chief Executive of the charity Team Evie, and also holds PPV positions on the North East & Cumbria PCC & SIC ODN as well as the NHS England PCC Clinical Reference Group.
Greg’s daughter Evie was born with multiple, complex cardiac, respiratory and digestive problems and spent the majority of her short life in PICU and experienced many surgeries during this time.
Following Evie’s death, the charity Team Evie was created to help sick children and their families – since it’s creation in 2015 the charity has grown from strength to strength, working closely with medical professionals to develop projects and support which have saved children’s lives, reduced stress and anxiety for families and made a huge difference for 10,000s of sick children and their families.
Before Evie was born, Greg was a Primary School teacher in Cumbria – as the charity grew and he and wife Jill welcomed daughters Imani and Anais into the world everything got a little too much to handle and he left teaching to take on the role of Chief Executive, to focus solely on making Evie proud and helping as many families as he could.
One of Greg’s personal passions is the inclusion of parents in their child’s care. His presentations locally and regionally have had a big impact, leading to him co-creating NHS training videos to support practitioners in their difficult conversations with parents following a child’s death.
Greg has developed his thought-provoking ‘6 steps of support’ which he will share with us at the conference to give a different perspective on the medical care which is provided for complex children in hospital. They may well be things you have never considered…
